IR (Infrared) produces a crisp black-and-white image in total darkness. Color Night Vision uses ambient starlight to produce a color image, but requires a tiny bit of background light.
It's usually IR reflection. Dust on the lens or a nearby wall reflects the IR light back into the lens. We can fix this by cleaning or relocating the camera.
Standard cameras see about 100ft in the dark. We have long-range EXIR cameras that can illuminate subjects up to 300ft away.
Infrared light is invisible to humans, though you may see a faint red glow on the camera face. Color night vision cameras sometimes use a soft white LED spotlight.
